Are you having marital issues? The unfortunate truth is that in today's world, many couples experience difficulties and road bumps throughout their relationship. With an approximate 50% divorce rate in the United States, it should be fairly obvious that a lot of marriages experience similar problems. However, if you are having marital problems and you want to save your marriage, you may want to consider intensive marriage counseling.

Are You Happy in Your Marriage?

What is Intensive Marriage Counseling?

Intensive marriage counseling may sound a bit intimidating, but that is only because it is a more thorough and direct, no holds barred approach to marriage counseling. Couples with minor issues or disagreements which can not be resolved among themselves may go to a traditional marriage counselor for assistance, in which case the counselor often acts as a mediator to assist the couple in coming to an agreement which both parties can be at least somewhat happy with. Intensive marriage counseling is different from that because, although the counselor will most likely still act as a mediator, they will often perform other duties as well.

One of the most popular forms of intensive marriage counseling is a marital retreat, in which the couple will take a week or longer to really dedicate themselves to resolving their problems in a program designed to help those dealing with marital problems. This can be very beneficial and more effective than, say, an hour or so a week of traditional marriage counseling. Intensive marriage counseling retreats often consist of various team building style activities, group and private therapy, and mediation sessions. Group therapy can be especially beneficial because a couple may be somewhat enlightened after hearing another couple's problems, and realize that their own issues may not be so bad after all.

The internet is a great place to find out more about intensive marriage counseling for a number of reasons. As this form of marital counseling is typically more expensive than a once a week counseling session it is a good idea to do thorough research before committing to a program. You should do a thorough investigation before making a choice, looking at the program's itinerary and comparing prices. User reviews are also helpful to look at, although they should be taken with a grain of salt when it comes to intensive marriage counseling because one couple's experience may be vastly different from everyone else's. Each marriage is unique and although many married couples go through very similar problems and issues, every case will be a bit different. Ultimately you will want to get a counseling approach that is dynamic and tailored to your specific problems, as this will be the best effort in saving your marriage.

Intensive marriage counseling is great for those who are having serious marital problems, but if you are far from the verge of a divorce then traditional marital counseling may be a better place to start in resolving your issues. However, if you do come to the conclusion that you need the full effective power of intensive marriage counseling, remember to thoroughly research the program and its offerings before committing to any particular counseling regimen. I hope that I provided some assistance and pointed you in the right direction, and I wish you the best of luck with your marriage!
